2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Volvo EX30
July 18 2024 - Chalmers Ford

2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Volvo EX30

There's a lot of excitement about the release of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E. This all-electric SUV is a popular option in the Ford lineup, and for good reason. Its spacious interior and competitive range make it tough competition in its class. If you're considering a small all-electric SUV, you may wonder how the upcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E compares to the Volvo EX30. For guidance, our team at Chalmers Ford has compared these two electric vehicles (EVs) so you know what to expect from each model.

Trim Levels

The features and upgrades you get depend on the trim level you choose based on your needs and budget. The 2024 Mustang Mach-E has four trim levels you can choose from. The Select trim starts the lineup, followed by the Premium, Rally, and GT trims. This model year also adds a Bronze Appearance package and a Performance package for GT trims. There's only one version of the Volvo EX30 with two motor options. You also have more paint color options for the Ford Mustang Mach-E. These include the following:

  • Shadow Black.
  • Grabber Blue Metallic.
  • Vapor Blue Metallic.
  • Glacier Gray Metallic Tricoat.
  • Eruption Green Metallic.
  • Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.
  • Star White Metallic Tricoat.

The Volvo EX30 is available in the following colors:

  • Vapour Grey.
  • Onyx Black.
  • Moss Yellow.
  • Crystal White.
  • Cloud Blue.

Both these electric SUVs have stunning good looks that draw attention. The Mustang Mach-E puts the classic Mustang emblem front and center on the vehicle, framed out by a sculpted hood and bold headlights. With the Volvo EX30, your eyes can feast on the EV's futuristic look and smooth lines.

Range and Performance

Your EV's range will vary depending on whether it has a single motor, rear-wheel drive, or two motors, referred to as all-wheel drive. This determines if you have a motor driving just one or both axles. For the Mustang Mach-E, all-wheel drive is the only option for the GT trim, but other trims can add dual motors. Rear-wheel drive Mustang Mach-E models have a 250-mile battery range, which increased to 270 miles for the GT trim. The all-wheel-drive Select and Premium trims have a 226-mile range on a full charge.

The Volvo EX30's range is similar to that of the Mustang Mach-E since it also features a choice between a single or dual motor. If you stick with the single extended-range battery pack, you can get an estimated 275 miles on a full charge. Going with the twin-motor performance option lowers the estimated range to 265 miles.

Interior Comforts

The 2024 Mach-E's interior comforts ensure that you feel right at home behind the wheel. It has plenty of seating to accommodate up to five passengers comfortably. With over 100 cubic feet of passenger volume and a versatile cargo area, the upcoming Mach-E promises to offer uncompromising space for everything you need. The Mustang Mach-E is longer and wider than the Volvo EX30, giving you a little more overall room inside. The cargo area of the Mach-E provides you with a maximum of 59.7 cubic feet of space, while the EX30 offers a little more front headroom at 41.7 inches.

We don't have a lot of information about the interior of the Mach-E yet, but details are coming. We know Volvo uses recycled materials for the seats and interior trim, and the creators designed several modern looks for the SUV. The color palettes are centered on the themes of Breeze, Mist, Pine, and Indigo.

Technology Advancements

Although the exact Mach-E technology specs are still coming, you can expect that it will be similar to the advancements in the 2023 model. This version provided wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a massive 15.5-inch touch screen with a SYNC 4A infotainment system, and USB ports in the first and second rows. Upgrading to the GT trim means you get a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer for premium sound quality. For the Volvo EX30, you can upgrade to a nine-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system that lets you customize the sound mode.

Safety Features

Driving an electric SUV around New Mexico doesn't mean you have to sacrifice safety features and driver-assistance technologies. The Ford Mustang Mach-E was an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick for 2021, and the latest version should be better than ever. You'll rest easy knowing you have access to front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and BlueCruise hands-free driving technology. This technology allows for autonomous driving on select highways.

While you won't get an autonomous driving feature with the EX30, this model has plenty of safety tech to keep you alert as you travel around Albuquerque. It comes with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. If you're a conscientious driver, either of these SUVs is a safe bet.

Suggested Price

You'll pay a little more for the upgrades and amenities that come with the Mustang Mach-E, but they'll be well worth it. The starting MSRP for the base Mach-E trim is $43,495, while the base Volvo EX30 begins at $34,950. The top-of-the-line Mustang Mach-E GT trim has a starting MSRP of $58,995. The cost of the EX30 will go up if you opt for a dual-motor version.

Keep in mind that the Mustang Mach-E is eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500, but you can't get this credit for purchasing the Volvo EX30. You can also check for additional savings from our regularly refreshed new vehicle specials. Additionally, you can look into other incentives for purchasing an EV in New Mexico to help balance the cost of owning one of these SUVs.
